Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disability Information

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Calstock Primary School, people and relationships are at the heart of all we do: all our children make our schools special and what is right for them, remain the central focus. Our vision and values recognise these strengths while also reflecting our aspirations, and are at the core of everything we do. We will support the learning and development of children with additional needs and ensure they are fully included in all aspects of school life.

Children with additional needs are identified through a combination of observations of the children as individuals within their classes by our experienced staff, tracking the outcomes of assessments and through discussions with parents. Mrs Steph Cook is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo). She works with class teachers and teaching assistants to support learning and development that meets the needs of the child. If you wish to discuss your child's learning, or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via email or Class Dojo in the first instance and then should you require further information, please contact Mrs Cook (scook@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk).

We work with a wide range of external agencies to provide the best support for all our children including, but not exclusively:

Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)
Autistic Spectrum Team
 (AST)
The Cognition and Learning Service
School Nursing

Occupational Therapy Service (OT)

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) or a Statement of Special Educational Needs, you do not need to complete an application form as a school place will be identified through a separate process. However, if a request has been made for an EHC needs assessment for your child, or your child is currently being assessed to decide whether an EHC Plan is necessary, you will need to make an application using the normal process. Please contact the SEN Assessment and Provision Team for more information on 01872 324242 or via email at specialeducation@cornwall.gov.uk.
